Six kilometres from the city of Murcia, in the foothills of the Carrascoy mountain range, in the district of Algezares, is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fuensanta.

It has its origins in a small medieval hermitage which was looked after from the beginning by a hermit who lived nearby.

At the end of the 17th century, in 1694, work began on the new church, which continued throughout the first third of the 18th century, resulting in the current Sanctuary of La Fuensanta.
